How FreeAgent is free with NatWest, RBS or Mettle

FreeAgent's full accounting software is free for as long as you hold a NatWest, RBS or Ulster Bank business current account, or free each month you use a Mettle account at least once. It's the genuine full product through the bank, not a limited free tier.

How to qualify by bank

NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank business current account holders get FreeAgent free for as long as they retain the account. Mettle works slightly differently: the account itself qualifies, but you need at least one transaction on it each month for that month to stay free.

Not Tide

If you bank with Tide, this free route does not apply to you. Only NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank and Mettle qualify.

If none of these banks fit you

FreeAgent is still available as a paid product. The Sole Trader tier is currently £19/mo +VAT, and the Landlord tier is £10/mo +VAT. Both cover the same full feature set as the free route.

Common questions

Does the free route cover VAT filing too?

Yes. Through a qualifying bank account, FreeAgent covers VAT as well as Income Tax. Not every free route does, so check current coverage before relying on it.

Does it cover landlords, not just sole traders?

Yes. The free route and the paid tiers both work for landlords as well as sole traders.

What happens if I close or switch away from the qualifying account?

The free route is tied to holding the account. It's free for as long as you retain a NatWest, RBS or Ulster Bank business current account, or keep making at least one transaction a month on Mettle, so closing or switching away ends the free condition.

What does FreeAgent cost if none of the banks fit me?

The paid Sole Trader tier is £19/mo +VAT, and the Landlord tier is £10/mo +VAT. The Software Chooser shows current promotional pricing alongside these ongoing rates.
